Outdoor Living & Hardscaping

Outdoor living & hardscaping in Harrisonburg, VA.

Paver patios, walkways, pergolas, and stone work across the Shenandoah Valley — built on a base that holds up to Virginia weather, by the crew that does the finish work indoors.

The same crew that sweats the corners indoors builds outdoors too.

STW Home Remodeling is known for tile and bathrooms, but a lot of our work happens in the backyard and out front. We build paver patios and walkways, set pergolas over a proper pad, lay stone veneer on foundations and walls, and handle the exterior odds and ends most remodelers won't touch.

Outdoor work fails the same way bad tile does — from underneath. A patio that wasn't excavated and compacted right will heave and dip in a couple of Virginia winters. So we start with the base: the right depth, the right gravel, and real compaction before a single paver or post goes down.

A patio is only as good as the ground you never see under it.

What we build outside

Patios, pergolas, and stone that stay put.

From a backyard patio to a stone-faced foundation, the outdoor work gets the same base prep and the same attention to the edges as anything we do inside.

01

Paver patios

Backyard patios laid on an excavated, compacted base so they stay flat and level through freeze-thaw instead of heaving and settling.

02

Walkways & driveways

Paver walkways and driveway aprons that tie the front of the house together and hold their line for the long run.

03

Pergolas & shade structures

Pergolas set on a solid pad and anchored to last — a finished outdoor room, not a kit leaning in the yard.

04

Stone veneer & masonry

Stone veneer on foundations, walls, and columns that dresses up the exterior and stands up to the weather.

05

Repairs & relays

Sunken or shifting pavers pulled up, the base fixed, and the stone relaid — the part most crews skip and the reason it failed the first time.

06

Exterior touch-ups

Exterior painting and the smaller exterior jobs that round out a project when you'd rather not line up another contractor.

Why it holds

Built from the base up.

Outdoor stone lives outside — freeze, thaw, rain, and the ground shifting underneath it. The projects that last are the ones where the groundwork was done right: excavated to depth, a compacted gravel base, and proper drainage so water moves instead of pooling and lifting the work.

It's the same principle as the waterproofing behind a shower. The part nobody sees is the part that decides whether the patio, the walkway, or the stone wall still looks right in ten years.
