The backsplash is the part they stand and look at.
Backsplashes, kitchen floors, and feature walls. Where the tile meets the outlet, the cabinet, and the range hood is where a kitchen tile job is won or lost.
Why it looks right or it doesn't
Where you start the first tile decides everything.
Start in the wrong place and you finish with a half-inch sliver jammed against the cabinet, an outlet cut sitting off-center, and a grout line that misses the edge of the range by a quarter inch. Nothing about it is broken. It just looks wrong, and you'll see it every day for fifteen years.
So we dry-lay it first. Find the center that matters — usually the range or the sink — and work out from there, so the cuts land where nobody looks and the full tiles land where everybody does.
It takes an extra hour. It's the difference.
- Dry-laid and lined out before anything gets set
- Outlets and switches cut clean, not caulked over
- Cuts land at the ends, full tiles land at the focal point
- Edges finished with trim or a mitered return — not bullnose-if-we-remember

Subway, herringbone, mosaic, slab, large-format. Full-height behind the range if you want the wall to be the thing.

Porcelain, marble, large-format. Properly prepped subfloor — the part that decides whether it cracks in year three.
Feature walls & hoods
The range wall is the one people photograph. Herringbone, stacked stone, a slab surround around the hood.
Patterns
The pattern is a decision, not a default.
Every one of these behaves differently in a small kitchen. Daniel will tell you which one your room can carry.
- Running bond The classic subway offset. Quiet, forgiving, never wrong.
- Herringbone More cuts, more labor, more impact. Makes a narrow wall feel intentional.
- Stacked Grid-straight. Beautiful — and unforgiving. Every grout line has to be dead true or it shows.
- Slab & large format Fewer joints, more stone. Reads expensive because it is.

How long does a backsplash take?
Most are done in about two days — one to set, one to grout. A full-height range wall or a heavy pattern like herringbone takes longer because of the cuts.
Can I use my kitchen while you're working?
Mostly. The counters need to be clear and the range wall is off limits while it sets, but you're not eating out for two weeks.
Do you supply the tile, or do I?
Either. Most people pick their own and we'll tell you honestly whether it'll work in your space and how much to order — including the extra you'll need for cuts and the box you'll want in the basement in case something cracks in five years.
What about the kitchen floor?
We do those too. Figure three to five days depending on square footage and what's under the old floor. Prep is most of the job.
Will you do just a backsplash?
